Medicine (14C) is a 31 bed acute care unit that provides services to adult patient populations that include: cystic fibrosis; chronic cardiac conditions including heart failure, endocarditis, NSTEMI and atrial rhythm disturbances; liver and renal injury and/or failure; cellulitis; EtOH with drawal; and delirium management.
Patients require acute medical and nursing intervention such as intravenous fluids, nutritional support, and pain management; respiratory care including tracheostomy and stable ventilator management; and education to optimize self-care.
14C admits behavioral/psychiatric patients with medical issues that may have suicidal ideation or other behavioral risks that necessitate a court hold. Creating a therapeutic environment for this population includes establishing a therapeutic nurse-patient relationship that facilitates gathering critical patient data and implementing the interdisciplinary plan of care.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- External applicants: Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing Degree from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA)
- Internal applicants: Associate's Degree in Nursing
- Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License
- BLS must be issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network branch of AHA (upload documentation with online application)
- BLS must not expire during orientation or probation period, and must have the same expiration date (upload documentation with online application)
- Communication skills including fluency in oral and written English
- Basic computer skills including the ability to send/receive email, navigate information technology associated with the position, and use Electronic Health Record information and tools. Ability to lift, bend, stoop, reach, carry, push, pull and walk throughout the work period
- Must be able to use all senses: seeing, hearing, touching, smelling, and speaking. OHSU provides reasonable accommodations for applicants with disabilities
- This position requires frequent intervals of walking significant cumulative distances (i.e. escorting patients to rooms, transporting specimens/supplies to other buildings, etc.) standing for long periods of time, and bending
- Ability to lift or help position (using correctly learned body mechanics) patients weighing up to but not limited to > 200 lbs. with or without assistance
- The work environment carries risk of exposure to human tissue/fluids and radiation
- Ability with or without reasonable accommodation corrective lenses and/or hearing aids to use the senses of seeing (including color vision ability), hearing, touch, and smell to make correct judgments regarding patient conditions and safely administer care
- Use of all hospital approved clinical equipment
- Significant use of computers, copiers, multi-line phones, and fax

- Constant exposure to usual hospital environmental conditions including pos sible exposure to blood and body fluids for which staff is provided education and protective equipment to minimize risk

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current OHSU employees: BSN preferred
- At least 1 year of recent Medical-Surgical experience
- At least 1 year of charge nurse experience
- At least 1 year current experience in Neurosciences, Trauma, Cardiovascular, Surgical Adult Acute Care, Intermediate Care, or SNF that cares of these patient populations
- Leadership and teamwork skills demonstrated
ORIENTATION:
- New Grads: 6 weeks
- Experienced in specialty: 2-4 weeks
- Experience, but not in specialty area: 4-6 weeks
